Case Study Presentation
Good evening! Rhonda and I joined forces to present the method of teaching through case studies. The issue of utilizing a hand-off tool for report when transferring patients within the hospital was a topic that was being discussed at the hospital where she works. She had some articles that had been brought up for discussion that we were able to incorporate into our project. Rhonda incorporated a video for the visual learner, and I had fun creating a Voki to introduce our page! I wanted to provide a universal hand-off tool that could be viewed on the page. This could either be copied or used as a starting point to futher develop a more personalized hand-off tool. I then looked to see what joint commission had to say on the matter as this would be an important part of what to look for when developing this tool. The wiki page turned out better than I expected. I hope that others find it helpful and resourceful.

Suzanne, our presentation is next week! I am getting little nervous. I know we will be just fine, but the anticipation is always the worst. You have a little more experience than I do since you are working with one of the other instructors this semester. I have enjoyed working with you. You are a good partner!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very hot topic in healthcare right now. I am interested in seeing the tool you have created. Another project we are currently working on at my hospital is bedside shift change report. Perhaps your presentation can give me some ideas.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne,
ReplyDeleteThe topic of handoff communication has always been important to me. Every hospital and every unit has their own style of reporting off to the next shift. Handoff communication can make a big difference and impact everyone involved. The TJC has required healthcare organizations to standardize their method but that is hard to do with so many specialties. I look forward to your presentation. Good luck! :-)
I like your blog. We choose the same background. I think that case study is a very useful teaching method, especially for nursing.
